Historic Olympia Tower Expands Redwood’s Affordable Senior Portfolio

NEW BEDFORD, MA (June 1, 2023) – Redwood Housing is excited to announce the addition of a 90-unit affordable housing community, Olympia Tower, that will continue to help us in our mission to Raise the Standard for senior living in the South Coast region.

Olympia Tower is located at 671 Purchase Street and consists of the original four-story structure, built in 1918, and the adjoining 10-story building that was added in 1982 when the project was converted to affordable senior housing. Redwood has outlined a robust renovation plan for the 63 1-bedroom and 27 2-bedroom apartments, as well as the common spaces throughout the property.

Resident amenities and commercial spaces include two community rooms, a fitness center, billiards room, salon, community store, laundry facilities and outdoor seating area. Those living in the apartments have access to resident service programming through the Center for Wellness and Independent Living, located on the ground floor.

New Bedford is located in the South Coast region of Bristol County, about 60 miles south of Boston. Incorporated in 1787, New Bedford was established as a global whaling and textile hub in the 19^th century. Still today the city remains a strong fishing port in the United States and is home to a diverse working class.
