Admiralty Apartments

Restoration of a historic landmark on Port Townsend Bay

Admiralty Apartments was built as the Central Hotel in 1874 and operated for almost 100 years prior to being converted to mixed-use affordable senior housing in 1972. The property was subsequently partially condemned after storms damaged its structure, which displaced half of the property’s residents. Redwood sponsored an environmentally conscious, historically significant redevelopment to preserve and resuscitate this historic landmark.

The redevelopment included extensive repairs to the property’s structure – including rebuilding the pilings and brick masonry façade – a complete modernization of all apartments and common areas, including new historically compatible windows, a solar photovoltaics system, energy efficient appliances and fixtures, and a new service coordinator office where programs were established to improve health, wellness and financial literacy.
