Energy-efficient affordable living in a park-like setting

Built in the early 1980s, Homestead North and Homestead South were well located communities south of Seattle that were at risk of being converted to market-rate housing. Redwood developed a preservation and redevelopment plan to revitalize the properties, which included full interior and exterior upgrades combined with a comprehensive energy efficiency program, including a solar photovoltaics system and energy efficient appliance and fixtures. The redevelopment also included park-like features to enhance the well-being of residents, including playgrounds, garden areas, picnic tables and benches.
